One of the most important aspects of safe dance training is the use of age appropriate technique. With the advent of all the dance shows on tv and dancers posting pictures and videos on social media, there is growing pressure to teach dancers more challenging step at earlier ages. However, teaching some positions and steps too early can lead to future injuries and life-long pain.
After attending many teachers course and learning from physiotherapists, we have learned what steps are appropriate for each age for their development and growth. When a parent enrolls their child in dance they have certain expectations of what they will learn and sometimes teachers want to fulfill those expectations without weighing the possible negative effects.
The young dancers body is very malleable and as such proper early training is essential. Turned out, hyper-flexible, forced body positions can be very bad for their bodies in the future.
